Osteopathic Internal Medicine Internship and Residency Program
The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and
the Nassau University Medical Center have an ongoing
20 year relationship in providing quality medical
education.
As the only medical school in Nassau County, and
as one of the largest and diverse medical schools
in the country, NYCOM has designated NUMC as a
primary teaching site for third and fourth year
medical students.
Over the years, this has led to many DOs choosing
NUMC for their postgraduate training. For many
years, NUMC has offered a traditional rotating
internship, which is extremely sought after and
competitive. The rotating internship is currently
approved for 18 positions, which are fully funded.
This internship fulfills the requirement for a
preliminary year for residencies in PM & R, radiology
and anesthesia. In fact, the rotating internship
provides the majority of DOs for these other NUMC
residency programs.
In addition, the Internal Medicine Residency is
"dually-approved," meaning it has met the criteria
for both AOA and ACGME educational excellence.
DO graduates of the NUMC Internal Medicine Program
are therefore eligible to take both the AOBIM
and ABIM Board Examinations, and thus become board
certified by both. This provides DO graduates
of the program maximum flexibility when it comes
to employment opportunities and academic appointments
later in their career.
The NUMC Internal Medicine Residency recently
completed an AOA inspection, and was granted full
three-year accreditation.
Thank you for your interest in NUMC. Our program
offers all the elements of a high quality training
program, which includes large volume of cases,
wide scope, and significant "hands on" experience.
We hope you choose to become part of our team.
Sincerely,
