Director of Residency Training
Dr. Weiss MD, Chairman of the Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department is a 1985
graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center School
of Medicine and is Board Certified in both Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation and Electrodiagnostic
Medicine. Dr. Weiss is Professor of Clinical
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SUNY
Stony Brook and Adjunct Professor of Clinical
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New
York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She served both her internship and her residency
at Nassau University Medical Center and has
been Chairman of the Department since 1994.
In addition to her Chairmanship, Dr. Weiss is
also the Director of the Residency Training
Program, the Director of Electrodiagnostic Medicine,
and the Chairman of the Executive Committee
of the Medical Staff.
Dr. Weiss has a strong interest in research,
has written many articles, and has presented
numerous lectures at the national level. Dr.
Weiss has had four books published; Easy Injections,
published in 2007, Easy EMG, published in 2004,
Skin Care Triad, published in 2000, and Cumulative
Trauma Disorder, published in 1998. She is presently
working on a fifth book, The Oxford Handbook
of PM&R, which will be published in 2009. She
is a mentor for the medical students at both
Stony Brook and New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine.
Dr. Weiss has been interviewed numerous times
on both local and national television programs.
Her peers recognize her contributions to Medicine
and listed her in ‘The Best Doctors in America’,
‘Who’s Who in American Women’ and ‘Who’s Who
in Science and Engineering.’

Adam
Isaacson, M.D.
Associate Chairman
Director of Inpatient Services
Dr. Isaacson graduated from the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School in 1991. His Internal
Medicine internship was at Morristown Memorial
Hospital and he graduated from the Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Columbia-Presbyterian
Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Isaacson has been
with Nassau University Medical Center in the
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
since July 1995. He was appointed Associate
Chairman of the PM&R department in September,
2004. Dr. Isaacson has been Board Certified
in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since
1996 and is a certified Acupuncturist. He was
the Founding Director of the Industrial Occupational
Institute which attracted private corporate
referrals for occupational injuries and pre-employment
examinations. He was also instrumental in starting
and expanding the IME and FCE (Independent Medical
Examinations and Functional Capacity Examinations)
divisions of the Department of PM&R. Dr. Isaacson
holds academic appointment as Associate Professor
of Clinical Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
at the State University of New York at Stony
Brook School of Medicine and as Associate Adjunct
Professor of Clinical Physical Medicine ands
Rehabilitation at New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine.

Thomas
Pobre, M.D.
Director of Outpatient Services
Dr. Pobre is an Associate professor of Clinical
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SUNY
Stony Brook as well as Adjunct Associate Professor
of Clinical Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He is board certified in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, Philippine board certified in
Orthopedic Surgery, and licensed to practice
acupuncture. Dr. Pobre’s interests include musculoskeletal
rehabilitation, spasticity management and electrodiagnosis.
He has published extensively, has written several
book chapters, and is currently coauthoring
the Oxford Handbook of PM&R.

Ajendra
Sohal, M.D.
Director of Pain Rehabilitation
Dr. Sohal graduated from the University of Rajasthan
in 1977. He completed an orthopedic surgery
residency in 1981 and was Board Certified in
Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation in India. His US residency in
Internal Medicine and Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation was at Harlem Hospital and Kingsbrook
Jewish Medical Center. He is Board Certified
in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well
as holding sub-specialty Board Certification
in Pain Medicine. Dr. Sohal has been an attending
physician at Nassau University Medical Center
since 1993. He was instrumental in starting
the very busy Pain Center as an integral part
of the Department of PM&R. He is an Associate
Professor of Clinical Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at the New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine and is an Assistant Professor of Clinical
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at State
University of New York at Stony Brook School
of Medicine.

Ricardo
Cruz, M.D.
Director of Brain Injury Services
Ricardo (Eric) Cruz, M.D. joined the Department
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Nassau
University Medical Center in 2008, as the Director
of Neurorehabilitation and Traumatic Brain Injury
(TBI) Services. In addition to TBI, Dr. Cruz’
interests include spasticity management, stroke,
and neuroplasticity. He wrote the TBI chapter
of the Oxford Handbook of PM&R. Dr. Cruz is
a licensed physical therapist in Texas. He graduated
from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines.
Dr. Cruz did his medical internship and Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Nassau
University Medical Center and completed a Fellowship
in Neurorehabilitation (traumatic brain injury,
spinal cord injury, and stroke) at Weill Medical
College of Cornell University/Burke Rehabilitation
Hospital. He is Board Certified in Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation. During his senior
year at NUMC, he served as chief resident.
Walter
Gaudino, M.D.
Director of Prosthetics and Orthotics
Dr. Gaudino began his health care career as
a physical therapist graduating from Columbia
University with a Masters Degree in Physical
Therapy in 1982. He then went on to earn his
Medical Doctorate at the State University at
Buffalo School of Medicine. He completed his
internship in Internal Medicine at Stony Brook
University Hospital and a residency in Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University
Hospital in 1991. He is board certified in PM&R.
He has specialized in the evaluation and conservative
treatment of musculoskeletal conditions for
over 20 years. He is an Associate Professor
in PM&R and lectures on prosthetics, low back
pain and musculoskeletal conditions. He has
extensive experience in spasticity management
using Botox therapy. Dr Gaudino has authored
chapters on Spinal Stenosis in the Essentials
of Physical Medicine and on brachial and lumbar
plexopathies in Easy EMG. In addition to NUMC
he is on staff at NSUH at Plainview and Saint
Charles Hospital. The emphasis of the practice
is on the evaluation and non-surgical management

Dennis
Dowling, D.O., F.A.A.O
Director of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
Dennis Dowling, D.O., F.A.A.O Director of Osteopathic
Manipulative Medicine Dr. Dowling is a 1989
graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic
Medicine of the New York Institute of Technology.
During his undergraduate years at NYCOM, he
wrote and illustrated a book, An Illustrated
Guide to OMT of the Neck & Trunk, which has
been translated into French. Dr. Dowling is
a contributing author and illustrator for all
editions of An Osteopathic Approach to Diagnosis
and Treatment and the third editor along with
his mentors Eileen DiGiovanna, D.O., F.A.A.O.
and Stanley Schiowitz, D.O., F.A.A.O. in the
most recent edition. He has also illustrated
other journal articles and textbooks, most notably
The Encyclopedia of Osteopathy by Dr. DiGiovanna,
and Easy EMG edited by Weiss, Silver and Weiss.
He has authored several articles including one
on an osteopathic technique he developed, Progressive
Inhibition of Neuromuscular Structures (PINS).
It first appeared in the May 2000 issue of the
Journal of the American Osteopathic Association
and subsequently in Ward’s Foundations for Osteopathic
Medicine (Second Edition) Chaitow’s Modern Neuromuscular
Techniques, and the third edition of An Osteopathic
Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment. He is a
co-author of the JAOA Northrup writing award
winning article on the effect of osteopathic
manipulative treatment on gait in Parkinson’s
patients (Wells, et al February 1999). As an
expert on OMT, Dr. Dowling has taught at many
of the colleges of osteopathic medicine, and
other educational programs both nationally and
in Europe and Japan. He has delivered the 2001
David Heilig, D.O., F.A.A.O. Memorial Lecture
at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine,
the 2004 Scott Memorial lecture at the Kirksville
College of Osteopathic Medicine of A.T. Still
University, and the 2005 T.L. Northrup Memorial
Lecture.
Dr. Dowling was a faculty member of the OMM
Department of NYCOM from 1990-2003, chairman
from 1998-2003, and was promoted to the rank
of full professor in January 2001. Holding the
rank of Clinical Professor, he has academic
appointments to the Mid-Western University Colleges
of Osteopathic Medicine and Western University
College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has been
in private practice in Syosset, New York since
2003. The National Board of Osteopathic Medical
Examiners appointed him as a consultant and
the Director of OMM Assessment for the COMLEX-PE
examination in June of 2004.
Since 1990, Dr. Dowling has supervised residents
in a clinic at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
department at Nassau University Medical Center
in East Meadow, Long Island.
Dr. Dowling received certification in OMM in
1995 from the American Osteopathic Board for
Special Proficiency in Osteopathic Manipulative
Medicine (AOBSPOMM) and was recertified in 2004
by the American Osteopathic Board for Neuromusculoskeletal
Medicine/OMM. He was certified in Family Practice
in 1997 and re certified in 2005. His F.A.A.O.
fellowship was earned in 1999. He has served
on the American Academy of Osteopathy Board
of Trustees (1998-2003), was AAO President (2003-2004),
chairman of the Undergraduate Academies Committee
and the advisor to the national Undergraduate
American Academy of Osteopathy (1993 - 2001),
as well as a member on several other AAO committees.
He is the former chairman of the AOA Committee
on Osteopathic History (1999 - 2005) and former
vice-chairman of the Educational Council on
Osteopathic Principles. Dr. Dowling is a current

Jeffery
Perry, D.O.
Osteopathic Residency Program Director
Jeffery Perry, D.O. Osteopathic Residency Program
Director Jeffrey Perry, D.O., is a graduate
of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He completed his residency in the Department
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Long
Island Jewish Medical Center. He subsequently
completed a fellowship in Pain Management at
Downstate Medical Center in the Department of
Anesthesiology. Dr. Perry has been the Osteopathic
PM&R Residency Program Director at Nassau University
Medical Center since 2005. He has appeared as
a medical expert on various radio broadcasts,
and has been a guest lecturer for orthopedic,
family practice, neurology and physiatry board
review courses. He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor
of Medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic
