Correctional Medical Unit


Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) is currently recruiting medical staff for full-time, part-time and per diem positions in its Medical Unit located at the Nassau County Correctional Center. The Correctional Center campus is located adjacent to the Nassau University Medical Center Campus in East Meadow on Long Island, NY. The Medical Unit consists of two primary care clinics serving approximately 1600 patients. Eight-hour day, evening and weekend shifts are available in this challenging, diverse and dynamic environment. Prior Correctional Health experience is a plus.

We offer a great salary plan with up to an additional $5,000/year in hazard pay incentive. NHCC's excellent benefits package includes medical, dental & optical insurance plans, NYS Retirement, deferred compensation plan and 35-hour workweek.

NURSING POSITIONS

Nurse Practitioners
Registered Nurses
Licensed Practical Nurses

Requirements: Must have a valid NYS License, CPR Certification and one year of prior medical/surgical experience. Bilingual is a plus.

PHYSICIAN

Examines, diagnoses and treats inmates at the Correctional Center. Takes specimens, may perform and evaluate tests. Prepare reports; authorize hospitalization and other specialized care.

Requirement: Must have continuing possession of a license to practice medicine, or a limited permit, issued by the State of New York.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT I

Under the direction of a Physician responsibilities may include but not be limited to: The Physical and/or Mental examination of patients and the gathering of their historical data. Assist in diagnostic procedure, ordering and interpretation of tests, laboratory studies and X-rays in order to determine treatment. Order medication and/or treatment as prescribed by the Physician. Confer with Physicians, Psychologists and other professional staff regarding the condition of patients. Make rounds alone or with a Physician, prepare reports. Counsel patients and relatives as required.

Requirement: Possession of either (a) or (b) below, issued by the New York State Department of Education:
     a. Continuing registration as a Physician Assistant;
     or
     b. A limited permit valid for the Nassau Health Care Corporation
