Mitchell H. Rubin, MD, appointed as Vice President for Ambulatory Services in
June 2007, and in January 2008 as chairman of
the newly created Department of Community Medicine,
has over twenty-five years of experience in the
clinical, operational and educational aspects
of community-based medicine, both in private practice
and public health system settings. He served for
14 years as managing partner of a large pediatric
group in Bergen County, New Jersey. Over more
than decade, Dr. Rubin worked with the communities
of East Harlem and the South Bronx as Director
of Community Medicine for the Generations Plus
Health Network of the New York City Health and
Hospitals Corporation (HHC). Most recently, Dr.
Rubin has directed the Pediatric Residency Program
at Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center,
another HHC hospital located in Brooklyn, NY.
After receiving his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Dr. Rubin trained in pediatrics at Roosevelt St. Luke's Medical Center and in neurology at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Rubin's career has been focused on providing high-quality medicine to diverse communities; he has been involved in, and has consulted on, numerous local and national initiatives to improve the care provided to underserved populations. These efforts have included projects funded by the National Institute of Health to improve primary care access and the federal Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Office of Performance Improvement.
A Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, Dr. Rubin holds academic appointments in the Department of Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine, in Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Departments of Community and Preventive Medicine and Pediatrics, and at New York Medical College in the Departments of Pediatrics and the School of Public Health. He is delighted to be joining the administration of Nassau Health Care Corporation in their efforts to improve health and health care for the people of Nassau County.
