Campus HousingIn addition to stipends, housing on the grounds is subsidized by the Medical Center and is available by application. The housing includes studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom, air-conditioned garden apartments that can accommodate 152 families. The complex is interlaced with lawns, gardens, and play areas. Rental fees, which include utilities other than personal telephone and cable television, are nominal. Because housing facilities are limited in quantity, a living-out allowance is provided to those house officers who cannot be accommodated. The Housing Department also provides information about off-campus housing opportunities in the surrounding area to those members of the house staff that cannot be accommodated in on-campus facilities. Unfortunately, there are not enough apartments to ensure that every resident receives an apartment. Apartment assignment is therefore based on three factors: the order in which your application is received; apartment style availability; and family size. A single person can only move into a studio apartment. One-bedrooms are for married couples with no children, or a single person with one child. Two-bedrooms are for married couples with one child or single persons with two children. Three-bedrooms are for married couples with two or more children or single persons with more than two children. There are no exceptions. You must provide the housing office with a copy of your marriage certificate and children's birth certificates if applicable. The only occupants allowed to move into an apartment
are your spouse and children. No other family
members are permitted to live on campus. If you
are getting married or awaiting the delivery of
a child, or if your immediate family is moving
here more than three months after July 1, the
apartment upgrade request cannot be completed
until after the event has occurred and can only
be granted on a very limited basis. You will be notified in writing in early May if you will be assigned an apartment and will receive further information regarding details about lease requirements and move-in dates. Apartments will not be available before July 1 and may not be ready until July 15, so you may need to make temporary arrangements during the first few days of your residency. All applications for housing (including upgrades for current residents) must be made online via this application. We will need copies of all necessary documents before the final assignments can be made. Documentation can be sent via e-mail to ccarbone@numc.edu, via fax to 516-572-5693, or by regular mail to NUMC Housing Office, 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, Mailbox SB54, East Meadow, NY 11554. Requests for housing will not be honored if submitted by means other than this online application. If you have any questions, please call the Housing Office at 516-572-6900 during normal business hours. |
