Nassau University Medical Center offers an exceptional medical education experience. We look for candidates with excellent academic performance and who are passionate about their future in medicine. Please note application policies for the residency programs may be different

U.S. Medical Graduates

Most of our clinical departments utilize the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) . We also participate in the National Resident Matching Program

Qualified applicants are invited for an interview with faculty and are afforded the opportunity to visit their department of interest. Candidates must have the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to the accredited residency program:
  • Graduate of accredited/approved medical school or
  • Graduate of a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Curriculum vitae must have continuous flow of activities since graduation from medical school
  • Personal Statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Medical school transcript
  • Dean’s letter (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
  • Personal interview
  • USMLE Scores for Part 1 & 2
  • Must be able to begin training by the start date on appointment letter
  • Information must be submitted before an application can be reviewed
Note: Please note that we will ONLY accept ERAS applications that are ELECTRONICALLY TRANSMITTED to our institution. Please do not send any materials via mail, fax, or e-mail. Those materials received outside of the ERAS system will not be forwarded to the program.

International Medical Graduates

International graduates must contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for their application materials and eligibility requirements. Paper applications will not be accepted. We only accept ERAS applications from International Medical Graduates and they must meet the following criteria:

General Eligibility & Requirements

Foreign national physicians seeking J-1 sponsorship to enroll in programs of graduate medical education (GME) or training in the United States must fulfill a number of general requirements. At a minimum, applicants must:
  • Have passed Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) of the United States Medical Licensing Examination™ (USMLE™) [and/or an acceptable combination of components of the former Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in the Medical Sciences (FMGEMS), the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) Part sequence, or the Visa Qualifying Examination (VQE)];
  • Hold a valid Standard ECFMG Certificate at commencement of training;
  • Hold a contract or an official letter of offer for a position in a program of graduate medical education or training that is affiliated with a medical school;
  • Provide a Statement of Need from the Ministry of Health of the country of most recent legal permanent residence, regardless of country of citizenship. This statement provides written assurance that the country needs physicians trained in the proposed specialty and/or subspecialty. It also serves to confirm the applicant physician's commitment to return to that country upon completion of training in the United States, as required by Section 212(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended.
